HOMEWORK -
Read 20 each night & complete the Written Response WS
The Reader in You: Developing Characters
This unit will expose readers to multiple literary texts with varying characters, settings and or events. Readers will spend time identifying what the character(s) think(s), how they feel, and their actions throughout the text. Readers will use direct evidence from the text to support inferences made about characters. Finally, readers will analyze how characters respond to events and or challenges within a text and what that reveals about the character.
In writing, students will develop routines and procedures to spend time building writing stamina and improving their own writing. They will use a writing process to develop and edit writing pieces. Using mentor texts, students will learn effective ways to begin a story. Students will understand that narratives can include both external or concrete details and internal thoughts and feelings to effectively convey the message. Also, narrative writers reveal the most important part of the story by slowing down the action and including the characters' thoughts and feelings.
